The number of seats in a batch is limited to 25 ONLY. Admissions will be done on first-come-first-served basis.

The course will be covered in a total of 15 hours.

Course Overview


Aim:

This is an introductory course in cosmology for interested students. It aims to cover the fundamental aspects of the subject and satisfy the curiosity of young minds.

Faculty:

The course will be coordinated by the renowned Cosmologist Prof. C. Sivaram.

 

Coursework


Broad Topics Covered:

The syllabus of the course will be at the introductory level and will include theories and models for the origin and evolution of the Universe along with topics like the Big Bang model and its comparison with Steady State and other models. Recent explosion of the observational evidence for the dark matter, dark energy, etc. will be covered, in addition to addressing the exciting current issues in cosmology, like string theory, black holes, and so on.

Classroom Sessions:

The course will be conducted at the M. P. Birla Institute of Fundamental Research, Bangalore.The classes will be conducted on Saturdays based on the schedule mentioned above.

  • Basic Requirement: Open to students who are pursuing graduation with Physics / Chemistry / Biology as one of their optional subjects.
  • As the number of seats is limited to 25, admissions will be made on first-come-first-served basis.
  • Certificates will be issued to the individual students at the end of the course. 
  • Outstation students are requested to make their own arrangements for accommodation.

  • Students can contact the institute to know about the fee structure of a particular course.
  • Interested students can download the application from the internet, fill it and send it by post to the address mentioned below along with a local cheque / DD drawn in favour of "M. P. Birla Institute of Fundamental Research" (payable at Bangalore). Fee structure includes registration and admission fee.
  • Interested students may also contact the Director and collect the application forms from the institute (address given below).
  • Students can personally pay the prescribed fee (payable by cash / local cheque / DD).
